Welcome to Lazy Dayz. Hampton Road’s premiere Hookah lounge.
The hookah smoking tradition has been around for centuries, and is called by many names around the world. While its beginnings are somewhat debated, all agree it is the Ottoman Empire that made the tradition what it is. In this vast empire, hookah smoking spread through the coffee shops where customers gathered to have a sip of coffee, talk about current events, and of course, have a daily smoke. Hookah smoking did not stay a simple addition to a coffee shop, quickly building up an entire subculture around it, complete with etiquette and procedures for its enjoyment. Moving forward a few hundred years, Victorian England imported the tradition. In England a new audience was found, but the culture and class surrounding the hookah remained the same. Slowly hookah smoking found its way into America, where in the last ten years popularity has sky rocketed. People of all ages and backgrounds come together and enjoy this unique experience. Hookah smoking has always been about the sense of community: people coming together to have a great, relaxing break, but that is socially stimulating at the same time. The hookah has come a long way, changing shapes and sizes, and moving across countries and cultures, but it still maintains its timeless tradition and purpose.
